The Wellness and Substance Abuse Program Coordinator reports directly to the Health & Wellness Center Director and supports all aspects of services provided for the campus community, most notably overseeing the tobacco cessation program, the substance abuse and recovery program, campus-wide wellness initiatives/outreach and individual support/education.

The position must be filled by a Registered Nurse with an active license in the state of Maryland and works under the directives of a Consulting Physician's standing orders, a partnership with the MD Department of Health Overdose Prevention Program, a grant agreement and tobacco cessation program protocols with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, and the Maryland Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act.

Oversee and coordinate the Substance Abuse Education program.
-Manage the Naloxone Ovedose Prevention training and dissemination, including providing in-person trainings to classrooms and Pubic Safety and managing the online training platform
- Assist with training of additional staff members
-Work with office of Community Standards to identify any students in need of counseling and referral
- Provide counseling and referral to students/staff seeking resources on substance abuse
- Maintain contact with referral agencies and resources through participating with the health department and meeting

Oversee the ASVPP grant and its activities
-Participate in grant reporting
-Supervise ASVPP Peer Educator
-With Peer Educator, carry out outreach activities including online and community outreach, wellness fairs and classroom education

Oversee the Collegiate Recovery Center
-Supervise Peer Support Specialists in the CRC
-Develop and carry out programming specific to students in recovery
-Establish and maintain contact with local and national community recovery organizations

Participate in Tobacco cessation program.  Provide tobacco cessation services remotely and in-person.  When or if trained, assist with training of additional staff and assist Director of Health Services with grant reporting data

Wellness, outreach and education
-Develop, promote, conduct, and maintain wellness programs and resources
-Wellness outreach and education by conducting wellness events and classroom teaching on various topics
-Provide individual wellness education, resources and referrals for students and staff through in-person visits and virtual/remote education via the virtual health and wellness website.
-Work on monthly health promotion projects with Director of Health Services to contribute to college wide newsletter
-Assist Director with maintenance and update of virtual HWC and other initiatives 

General nursing/Provide in-person nursing support and care
-Walk in and telephone triage and assessment
-Over the counter medication administration
-Respond to campus emergencies when needed
-Provide first aid to students and staff
-Administer STI urine testing
-Provide literature, referrals and resources 
-Assist with HWC data collection
-Other duties as needed, including COVID 19 program assistance

 

Associate's degree or higher

Minimum of five years of relevant experience

Registered Nurse with an Active Maryland license

AHA Healthcare Provider BLS CPR

Professional experience working within the community and providing resources and collaborating with others

Tobacco Cessation Facilitator training and experience preferred.  Willingness to complete Tobacco Treatment Specialist training within first year of hire required

Experience in a College Health & Wellness setting

Experience with substance abuse education

Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification.
