More specifically, the Auto Mechanic I/II is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all college vehicles, electric vehicles and grounds keeping equipment. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. The incumbent is required to assist in meeting the operational needs of the College during emergencies and college closures, as well as, ensure continuity of strategic services.

What you will do in this role

Assist with the repair of college owned cars, trucks, buses, vans, carts and groundskeeping equipment.

Ability to work independently to perform general equipment maintenance, to include fluid and filter changes, tune ups, lubrication, brake pad/shoe replacement, bearings and bushings and belts.

Assist in the overhaul of engines.

Repair fuel and electrical systems.

Service power trains on vehicles with standard and automatic transmissions.

Adjust brakes and steering systems.

Winterize all college owned vehicle and groundskeeping equipment.

Ensure all college vehicles are cleaned and filled with fuel prior to use.

Assist in the maintenance and repair of groundskeeping equipment.

Accompany Auto Mechanic when responding to maintenance emergencies on campus.

Properly dispose of all waste fluids and materials.

Assist in the repair of machinery and systems as assigned.

Ability to read schematics and reference material.

Follow established safety policies and procedures, including the use of all personal protective equipment necessary to perform duties safely.

Keep shop clean and free of tripping hazards.

Assist Grounds crew with snow removal and other major projects as assigned.





What you will bring to this position

High school diploma or the equivalent and certified training in repair and maintenance of vehicles required.

Minimum of one year of experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles and groundskeeping equipment required.

Ability to maintain state of the art technology in area of vehicle maintenance and repair.

Possess or willingness to obtain ASE Certifications to service automobiles, light trucks, school buses (type A &B) and diesel engines.

Must have a valid Maryland driver’s license and a good driving record.

Ability to work independently with attention to detail and deadlines.

Ability to learn welding skills.

Demonstrated ability to work under the following conditions and meet the following physical requirements:

    Ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. throughout an 8-hour shift.

   Ability to work outdoors in varied weather condition, such as heat, cold, rain, snow and slippery conditions.

   Ability to work on uneven surfaces.

   Ability to utilize lifts ladders and/or scaffolding to work at elevated heights.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.

Ability to effectively interact with students, staff, faculty and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
