Instructional Specialist-Electrical, Contract with Benefits

The Correctional Education and Special Populations Instructional Specialist is a member of the program team dedicated providing pre-apprenticeship electrical instruction to students between the ages of 16-24 at the Woodland Job Corps Center.  The Instructional Specialist will be responsible for: the delivery of noncredit instruction face-to-face, and online using the Canvas Learning Management System;  conducting inventory of tools, equipment and instructional materials, and maintaining files and student records.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT: Locates and/or develops  curriculum that aligns with the Training Activity Record (TAR) outline. Maintains and updates student files and records, maintain an organized and efficient workstation and models skills for the students. 

PROGRAM INSTRUCTION:  Provides instruction and prepares students to comprehend theoretical principles, performs basic technical skills in installing, wiring and repairing electrical structures and fixtures; and attains industry certifications. Facilitates job readiness training  and assists with job placement and follow-up services for students. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT:  Assists the Director and Coordinator to ensure that the program follows best practices including identifying and achieving specific measurable outcomes and college competencies.  Implements strategies based on results to continuously direct course improvement and promote student achievement.  

ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT:  Organizes and supports the implementation of strategies to achieve departmental and school enrollment goals. Assists with student recruitment and community outreach.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COLLABORATION:  Attends all mandatory and weekly team meetings held at Woodland Job Corps Center.  Attends all training sessions conducted by the College and Job Corps.

OTHER DUTIES: As assigned by the Director and Coordinator. 

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum of five years of experience in working as an electrician at the Journeyman or Master level.

Minimum of two years of teaching or training experience with diverse populations.

Electrical Cert. (Journeyman/Master) Electrician. 

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite

Familiarity with NCCER training materials.

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations.

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with diverse populations (students, administrators, faculty/staff, professional organizations/associations, and the general public).

Demonstrated ability to work collegially with a culturally diverse group of students, faculty, staff,  and administrators a regular basis.

Associate's degree or higher.

Cert. as NCCER Craft Instructor

Ability to function with minimal supervision with attention to details and deadlines, including the ability to teach both synchronous and asynchronous formats.
