Reporting to the President, the Vice President for Information Technology (VPIT) leads the college's efforts to support and promote the strategic use of information technology and services for the college. The VPIT serves as the technology leader for the entire college providing vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology strategies and initiatives college-wide. The position scope is inclusive of all college divisions and locations. The VPIT is responsible for anticipating and maintaining a vision for the future technology needs of the college and for recommending strategies, priorities, and projects that will best achieve the college's strategic goals and objectives. The VPIT is a change agent providing critical support in recruiting and retaining students, enhancing the student experience, improving learning outcomes, and advancing the college mission.  The VPIT ensures the Learning Management System for AACC’s online program and the lab experiences provide faculty and students with the best possible learning experience.

Serves on the President's executive leadership team to build consensus across and within a multi-stakeholder IT environment. The VPIT is expected to establish Anne Arundel Community College as a higher education technology leader in the community college sector.

Provides institution-wide leadership and direction in the management and operation of information technologies and services across the college. Leads IT governance, strategic planning, and relevant policy development in collaboration with the senior leadership.

Works with all college departments to develop, implement and advance an overall shared vision for technology that is innovative, student-centric, and customer oriented. Determines priorities, projects and future direction of IT functions with an eye to ensuring technology needs for faculty and staff to engage students at the highest level are supported. Engages and coordinates with college stakeholders to identify needs, and establish proposed strategic priorities that are supportive of the entire institution.  Ensures AACC’s courses and programs have quality infrastructure and support innovation.  Supports the lab experiences of faculty instructional staff, and staff where relevant.

Leads the institutional information technology budgeting process and provides leadership in cost and productivity analysis. Provides effective stewardship for technology resources.

Provides direct supervision and mentoring to technology staff, allocates staff roles and duties, and promotes opportunities for staff development. Develops and maintains an appropriate organizational structure that supports the long-term needs of the college. Fosters a culture of teamwork among the technology staff and builds a strong commitment to exemplary customer service.

Works collaboratively with the senior leadership to advise on innovation, emerging technologies, and digital trends that advance excellence in student learning, student success, and student completion.

Implements technology innovations and improvements based on continual assessment of institutional technology needs to streamline internal operations and to help optimize their strategic benefits.

Creates an environment that ensures the integrity of institutional information and systems. This involves development, oversight, and regular assessment of IT security, risk management, disaster recovery and business continuity planning to ensure processes are in place for regular review for currency and adequacy.

 

Master's degree from an accredited institution in information technology, computer science, management information systems, educational technology, or a related field. Demonstrated continued professional development.

Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in the information technologies field, including at least five years in a high-level, leadership role.

Significant experience in IT strategic planning and substantive knowledge of the impact of technology on teaching and learning, with particular emphasis in current instructional technology.  

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.  Must be able to collaborate/coach non-IT campus leaders.

Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and database and software applications, Microsoft and other applications.

Experience in leading large multifaceted technology projects with demonstrated success in effective cross collaboration to meet deadlines and user expectations.  

Strong knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, security risks, and challenges facing higher education.

Experience leading major change initiatives and demonstrated skills in change management and innovation. A demonstrated leader with the vision, knowledge and experience to bring departments with different differing opinions together for the benefit of the college.

Demonstrated success in supervising and mentoring staff to maximize job satisfaction and productivity. Experience with developing a talent strategy for IT staffing needs. 

Experience in higher education preferred.   Ideally some teaching experience. Experience in technology needs and innovative practices in higher education setting, including student services technology needs (registration, admissions, financial aid, etc.), technology needs/innovation in classroom and online instruction, needs in continuing education (seamless and efficient registration for students as well as conferences), and technology security requirements.

Experience utilizing the cloud to enable rapid deployment of services and improvements to efficiency and effectiveness of IT operations.

Experience with ADA accessibility requirements for information technology resources.
