Student Transition & Success - HSTT
Full-Time Staff

The Success Coach is primarily responsible for working with non-traditional college students to transition them from Adult Basic Skills/GED (ABS), English Basic Skills (EBS), and English  Language Learning (ELL) programs into certificate programs offered through Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) and credit courses.  The Success Coach will develop contextualized workforce related curriculum, participate in orientations and will provide instruction in student success, career awareness and employment readiness topics.  In addition, the Success Coach will serve as liaison to Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation on issues related to student placement and tracking under the federally mandated Workforce Innovations Opportunity Act (WIOA).

This position reports to the Program Manager, Student Transition and Success Team.

This contract runs from January 2021-Sept. 2021.

 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most AACC employees are currently working remotely. Only individuals who are residents of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia are eligible for employment at the college. You must reside in one of these states prior to a determined start date

 

STUDENT SUPPORT:  Develop and execute a case management approach for working with non-traditional college students including but not limited to: non-native English speakers, underemployed and unemployed individuals who are interested in pursuing post-secondary education or training and assisting them with addressing academic and socioeconomic barriers to program of study completion. 

RECRUITMENT: Develop and execute a plan to transition students from entry level programs (i.e. ABS, GED, EBS). Provides detailed information to students regarding career planning, program pathways, college registration and enrollment procedures, and serve as a liaison between the student and the AACC Financial Aid Office, Office of Admissions, and other AACC student support services to transition students into credit and non-credit courses. Maintain an active connection with AAWDC to determine students' eligibility for funding for workforce training under WIOA and similar programs. 

RETENTION:  Executes retention strategies to ensure consistent contact with students during their educational program to ensure that they are progressing and are referred to additional resources when support is needed. Tracks and analyzes data for students progressing through CEWD and credit programs; data collected through face to face meetings with students and phone or email contact. 

CONTEXTUALIZED LEARNING:  Develop contextualized workforce-related curriculum for and provide instruction on topics such as study skills, career exploration, resume writing, navigating the U.S. workforce, reading, math, and English communication skills for career success, and other career readiness skills such as resume writing and interviewing for a job.   

OTHER DUTIES: As assigned by the Program Manager, Assistant Dean and/or Dean.

Bachelor's degree or higher

Minimum three years increasing responsible experience in program administration and development, teaching or training, or closely related work experience.

Three years of relevant experience such as student advising, teaching adult learners, career counseling and working with at risk populations.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse, multi-cultural populations and ability to work effectively and tactfully with students, instructors, staff, community representatives, government agencies and the public.

Strong computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office and databases. 

Experience with data collection and general office duties required; some experience in preparing reports.

Ability to function with minimal supervision with attention to details and deadlines including the ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to accommodate the needs of the program.

Ability to utilize college standard word processing, spreadsheets and database systems at an intermediate level.

Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills.  Strong customer service and problem solving skills

Experience developing and providing contextualized instruction (i.e. I-BEST model), preferred.

Experience using social media for recruitment and retention preferred.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced setting handling multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
