Economics Instructor/Assistant Professor, Contract with Benefits
Business and Law - HB&L

The School of Business & Law is seeking a contract with benefits instructor/assistant professor to teach Economics courses for the Economics Department.

Faculty is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in all credit economics programs.  Instruction may be in a variety of formats, including but not limited to classroom, distance, online and off campus. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the faculty member will have a major role in curriculum development, assessment strategies, outcomes measurement, engaged learning, special events, partnerships, publications, career and academic advising, and mentoring.

While faculty work of 30 faculty load hours an academic year will include primary responsibilities for teaching and assessing learning and for institutional service, advising, and professional development, the college seeks to break the frame that traditionally surrounds faculty assignments, especially since academic divisional needs vary.

As such, faculty should expect to integrate with their primary responsibilities some combination of the following,

  1. Creating experiential learning opportunities and assessment techniques, (e.g., work-based and service learning; portfolio assessment, including developing and evaluating learning portfolios; etc.)
  2. Mentoring
    • students from target groups
    • new full-time faculty
    • part-time faculty
  3. Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for synchronous and asynchronous learning
  4. Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs
  5. Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community
    • recruiting and marketing
    • advising with expanded responsibilities
    • devising retention strategies and activities
  6. Strengthening relations and collaborative activities with K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleagues

Relevant Information:

  • Teaching assignments of 15 faculty load hours per semester will primarily include courses in introductory, micro-, macroeconomics and business statistics. 
  • Rank and salary are dependent on qualifications.  
  • Although the College has a traditional rank and tenure system, all new appointments are non-tenure track.
  • Contingent on funding, this will be posted as a full-time position, one-year term contract for AY20-21 and will be renewable depending upon performance, enrollment, and funding.

  • Master’s degree in Economics, or a related field.
    • At least 24 graduate hours in economics, including micro and macro
  • Proficiency in statistics
  • A proven ability to teach college-level economics courses
  • Current experience with a range of computer applications in economics and statistics
  • Excellence in oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ph.D. in Economics, or a related field
  • 2-3 years of experience teaching economics courses
